MAC Strobe Cream!

A quick post coming your way! I wanted to talk about a product that I've heard so many nice things about but thought I would never be interested in. It's a luminising cream from MAC, their famous Strobe Cream. I have it in this mini travel size and I must say that it has taken me by surprise!

Strobe Cream is a skin brightner, MAC markets it as a face moisturiser with skin benefiting ingredients. However, to me it's more like a highlighter. It seems to have such a visible glow, I just don't see it working on my oily skin applied all over.

As mentioned many times before, my skin is very oily and that is why I usually stay away from liquid highlighters. I also find that they don't work that well with powder foundations and most of the time that is my foundation of choice. But this fall and winter I've been wearing liquid foundation more and that is when I've been using Strobe Cream. And it does work with my skin too! I've been wearing it under my True Match foundation on the top of my cheek bones and on the brige of my nose, so basically everywhere I would normally highlight with a powdery product. I must say, every time I wear liquid and Strobe Cream together, it really makes a difference! It gives my face a really nice glow that looks very natural at the same time.

If my skin wasn't so oily, I would mix Strobe Cream together with my foundation. It would look just lovely! If you have dry skin, you can use it as a primer applied all over your face or as a moisturiser like it is intended. I've been using it only to highlight right after my moisturiser and then let it set for a while before my foundation.

Some swatches. Now, this was way too much product...! I had to wipe some off so I could blend it nicely. Here it is blended in the pictures below. As you can see, it's very glowy! But it's subtle at the same time, it's not shimmery at all. I must say that only a tiniest amount goes a long way! The normal size Strobe Cream would be too much for me, even this smaller 30 ml / 1 fl oz. seems like a lot because I really don't need that much.

As you can see, the glow is just amazing! Subtle but definitely glowy. I love it! Don't you just love it when you fall in love with a product you never thought you would!

Stockmann has started selling MAC online here in Finland! I live far away from the nearest MAC counter and it's been really hard to get my hands on MAC products so I'm really happy about this! Strobe Cream (normal size 50ml / 1.7 fl oz.). retails 33€ at their website.

I also have the famous Fix + in a travel size. I must say that I've really been enjoying it! I feel like it works better now in the winter time, it feels moisturising and gives a nice finishing touch for my makeup. Works very well with powder foundations! I was thinking about getting a full size but then decided against it. I feel like, as much as I like it, it doesn't hold my makeup in place during the day as well as my De-slick Setting Spray from Urban Decay.

That's all this time :) I'm hoping to take pictures of the Stila palette today, let's hope for clear weather..!

Happy Holidays! :)

Christmas is nearly here..! I must say, I've been good this year. That is why Santa delivered an early Christmas present to my door today..! In fact, I found some pretty good Black Friday deals and they arrived just in time for Christmas. Here's just a sneak peek what I got, unfortunately today is the darkest day of the year so it's impossible to even try taking better pictures. I will do a proper haul post later!

I'm so happy I decided to go for the Stila palette instead of Urban Decay Naked Basics 2. I was already checking out with Naked Basics 2 but then decided to change my order. In The Light looks absolutely amazing! Neutral, very wearable colors for daytime and some darker ones for smokey eye looks. Can't wait to try is!

Happy Holidays my dear readers! I want to thank you for reading my blog and sticking with me eventhough I don't have the time to post regularly. Now, let's all enjoy the Holiday season! :)

Haul Time! :) Lumene, Bourjois, Rimmel, Isadora..

I've been doing some shopping lately at different places so I thought a collective haul would be in order. There was some necessities that I needed, like the concealers and mascaras, but also here's some things that I really didn't need but more like wanted. That's not so bad if I got them at a fair price, right? Right.
I must apologize for the poor quality of the pictures, we don't get much daylight at this time of the year. In fact, the sun goes up only a few hours in a day at the moment...so it's pretty much grey or pitch black outside. On to the haul...!

First, let's start with Lumene. I actually needed a new CC Powder (read my review here) because I was completely out of it. Now, the lipstick and the mascara, those I really didn't need but I got a really nice deal. Normally I only use waterproof mascara but it can be a bit difficult and time consuming to remove. For those days that I don't need to look perfect but I still want to look put together I thought a regular mascara would be useful. The lipstick color was something I didn't have in my collection. To me it doesn't look like a berry color though...more like a basic red!

Lumene CC Color Correcting Powder, Lumene Rasberry Miracle Mascara & Lumene Rasberry Miracle Lipstick in 06 Marjametsä / So Berry

I placed an order at www.feelunique.com mainly because I needed a new waterproof mascara and a concealer of some kind. I ended up getting two concealers, a Bourjois mascara and my favourite brow color from Maybelline (read my review here). You can't get these concealers in Finland and I wanted to try something new, at the same time it seemed that these shades could be light enough for my complexion.

Maybelline Browdrama Sculpting Brow Mascara, Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara, Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer (010 Ivory) & Bourjois Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer (51 Light Radiance)
A recent grocery shopping trip turned into a successful makeup haul when these items from Isadora's Coffee & Poetry Fall Collection had just gone on sale. I've been loving the Twist-up Gloss Stick in Red Wine so much that I decided to get a back up. Also the brown eye pencil was intriguing, so I went for it. All of these were only 2€ each so I don't think we need a justification for these babies..! Now that's what I would call a bargain.

Isadora Twist-up Gloss Stick 28 Wine Red, Isadora Twist-up Eye Gloss 15 Vintage Brown & Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Stay On Lip Contouring Pencil 007 Rose Quartz

The Rimmel pencil is a true my lips but better - shade for me. I've been really liking it so far!
Hope you liked my haul! I got all this stuff but it didn't break my bank and that makes me even happier.

Review: L'Oréal True Match Foundation :)

I have a foundation review for you! This time I've found a less expensive foundation that is fair enough for my complexion. Only the girls with the fairest skin can relate here when I say that it's really frustrating when you want to try new foundations and every single time the lightest shade is too dark for you. Yes, I hear you. This is why I've been a fan of powdery mineral foundations for a long time now, mainly because there's usually a great selection of shades to choose from. For me it's really hard to find foundations or concealers that are not too dark, especially if I'm trying to find something from drugstore brands. But now I have found something really close...and it's from L'Oréal! Their True Match range has some really light shades. Mine is the neutral toned one, Ivory N1. N stands for neutral which is great for me, because I find that my skin is mostly neutral toned. I can wear yellow based foundations just fine but neutral tones suit me even better. On to the review...

The foundation comes in a nice and sleek bottle with a silver pump, I like the design very much. It feels high end! Also the pump works nicely, you can pump the amount you want easily.

I don't know if you can tell from the picture but there's some tiny little shimmers in the foundation. I don't see the microshimmers transferring on to my face, this foundation dries pretty nicely and to me it seems pretty matte. If you have dry skin I don't think it's necessary to powder over it at all. I have oily skin so I like to apply a light layer of powder on top.

The consistency is quite runny and liquidy. I'm used to more thicker foundations because that usually means better coverage. My skin is now in a better condition and there's less to cover, so I don't mind that it's not completely full coverage. I would say the coverage is medium, but you can build it up if you want to, to a certain point. I definitely need to use some concealer on the red areas like around my nose and on my acne scars but that's fine. The best way for application in my opinion is a synthetic buffing brush of some kind. I've been using my Coastal Scents synthetic flat top buffing brush and it works nicely, although sometimes it seems that it's not the most easiest foundation to blend but I think that has something to do with the moisturiser I'm using. I find that blending get easier if I use a primer underneath. Once the foundation settles on my skin, it looks just great!

In these swatch pictures the coverage looks nice, but that's a lot of product in a small area. I find that if you use too much on the skin, it can look a bit cakey, so usually a one pump is enough for the whole face. The color match is actually pretty good! I find that when it dries it can turn a bit darker but then once it oxidizes a little on my face, it actually turns a little bit more paler. Then it matches my skin perfectly! :)

I have oily skin so I don't expect too many hours of wear out of any foundation. I find that it stays on fine during the day but I definitely need to blot and powder a few times. At the end of the day there is some noticeable wearing off, especially around my nose and on my chin area. But you must remember that my skin is very oily and this foundation is not really an oily skin foundation. If you take that into consideration, this foundation performs just fine!

I paid around 17€ for my foundation, which is not bad for the amount of product you get. The foundation is also in a hygienic bottle with a pump, so it will last a long time. If you have trouble finding the right foundation shade for you, I suggest you do some swatching with the True Match foundation shades. There's a lots of options with different tones (warm, neutral and cool).

MAC MSF Lightscapade! + Thoughts on the new packaging

As mentioned previously, my love for MAC MSF in Soft and Gentle has been strong over the years. I have repurchased it once, but now it seemed that I was getting bored. So I wanted to get that one highlighter I'd been thinking about for quite a long time, maybe had a couple of dreams about it too.. I finally had the chance to go to a MAC counter, so I didn't even think about it twice and half a minute later Lightscapade was in my possession :)

I'm sure you all are familiar with Lightscapade. I've had my eye on it for many years and I was very happy when it became part of the permanent collection. It has became a favourite for many girls.

By the way, MAC has hauled their prices up here in Finland, I paid 30€ for my Lightscapade. I also got a MSF Natural and it was also 30€. That's almost $40! Unfortunately for me that is a bit too much, eventhough I really like my MSF Natural...

The other thing that I'm not so happy about is the new packaging. I really liked the old one better, you could see the product through the plastic. Well, you still can but now it just doesn't look good and I must say, it looks a little bit cheap. The new case has a magnetic lid which sounds good but in fact it's more difficult to open now,  I think. To me the packaging is a very important part of the whole experience, so that is why why I feel so disappointed.

The product itself is very gorgeous and pretty, yes. Definitely the most beautiful I own! I can see myself falling in love with it but the new packaging is holding me back. In fact, I'm seriously thinking about finding a new home for my Lightscapade, I just can't seem to get excited about using it because I dislike the packaging so much. I haven't even swatched it yet because I'm really thinking about selling it.

As you can see, I'm really regretting my purchase. I thought it was a dream come true but now it seems that I feel much more strongly about other highlighters. Anyone else disliking the new packaging or am I taking this too seriously? :)

A New Favourite: Benecos Natural Highlighting Powder! :)

You may know that I love a good highlighter. I mean I REALLY love me some highlighter, managed to use up a MAC MSF even. I use highlighter pretty much everyday. In fact I feel naked without applying highlighter. I've been loving my Soft and Gentle for a long time, but now it has been completely replaced by this new beauty form Benecos. It's their Natural Highlighting Powder in Stardust. For those who are not familiar with Benecos, they are a German certified natural cosmetics brand. I really like their products because they are very affordable. Unfortunately I'm not sure if their products are available outside Europe.

I've used this highlighter non-stop ever since I got it. As you can see there's already a small dent in the pan, and I've had it only a couple of months. I'm sure we can see some pan by the end of this year :)

This is the perfect product for a heavy handed girl like me. The finish is very subtle so you really can't go overboard with this one! It gives a very natural glow without being shimmery at all, at least I don't see any shimmers on my face. You can see some tiny shimmers in the pan but they don't transfer on to my face. The color is a light shampagne color and I'm sure it looks beautiful and flattering on many skin tones. Compared to Soft and Gentle, this one is much less shimmery and more creamier and smoother somehow. The consistency is just so silky and lovely.

To me the best part is the scent. It smells heavenly coconut! It's not overpowering by any means but you can definitely smell it in the pan. Not at all when it's on your skin, which is a good thing.

I can't recommend this enough. It's great if you are just starting to highlight and contour, you can't go wrong with this one. Nice and subtle for everyday use. It's around 10€ here in Finland, you can't beat that. I highly recommend!

And here's the reason why I was able to take nice pictures today, it was not completely pitch dark in the morning because of the...snow! Have a nice day everyone! :)

Re-Review: Lumene Blueberry Wild Curl Waterproof Mascara! :)

I'm back! I apologize for the lack of posts. I have been just so busy and haven't been able to find the time to do proper blog posts, and I feel bad. Because there are so many products I want to talk about! Some hauls may have happened too...
But I thought I would start with another waterpfoor mascara review. Well not exactly a new review because I have reviewed this mascara already once (read my review here). Lumene re-named the mascara and it's now called Blueberry Wild Curl. I was not sure if they changed the formula too, so I had to buy it and test it out. Blueberry Curl used to be one of my all time favourites, so I really hoped they didn't change this one...!

Everything seems to be the same, all they did was change the name. I really like the shiny blue packaging, btw.

I have issues with bigger brushes, I don't seem to be able to apply mascara without a mess with a bigger mascara wands like the Rocket from Maybelline or False Lash Effect from Max Factor. This mascara has a smaller brush and my mornings are now mess-free. It's the same brush, so nothing new here. Especially I like it for my bottom lashes, it's small enough to apply nicely in that area. With bigger brushes it's usually a big mess.

I like the results very much, I have to say that this mascara still is one of my all time favourites. I like the definition it gives me but my lashes also look voluminous and full. This is one coat of mascara which is usually enough for me, I like to avoid clumping so usually I go for one coat only.

So if you were wondering, it's still the same! Still very much holds my curl all day long, doesn't smudge and stays on all day. I must admit, it's still a pain to remove but I can live with that because it has what I look for in a perfect mascara. Hands down one of the best waterproof mascaras out there, for me at least. If you are looking for nice volume and separation AND you want your lashes to stay curled all day, I highly recommend. I paid 15,90€ from mine.
